History The Knights Templar Questions
The relationship between the Knights Templar and the Church was initially positive and supportive. The Templars were officially recognized by the Church and enjoyed the protection and endorsement of the Pope. They were exempt from paying taxes and had their own chaplains to perform religious services. However, over time, tensions arose due to the Templars' growing wealth and power, leading to their eventual downfall. In 1312, Pope Clement V disbanded the order and suppressed it, largely due to pressure from King Philip IV of France.
