Ethnic Groups And Diversity Questions
Cultural appropriation refers to the adoption, borrowing, or imitation of elements from another culture, often by a dominant culture, without understanding or respecting its significance. It becomes problematic when it reinforces stereotypes, commodifies cultural practices, or disrespects the cultural origins and traditions. Cultural appropriation can perpetuate power imbalances, marginalize and exploit minority cultures, and contribute to the erasure of their identities. It is important to recognize and appreciate cultural diversity without appropriating or exploiting it.
