What is the difference between VTP server and VTP client?

The main difference between a VTP server and a VTP client is that a VTP server is responsible for managing and distributing VLAN information to other switches in the network, while a VTP client receives and stores the VLAN information from the VTP server.

A VTP server can create, modify, and delete VLANs, and any changes made on the VTP server will be propagated to all other switches in the VTP domain. On the other hand, a VTP client cannot make any changes to the VLAN database and simply synchronizes its VLAN information with the VTP server.

Additionally, a VTP server can also function as a VTP client, meaning it can receive VLAN information from another VTP server in a higher revision number. However, a VTP client cannot function as a VTP server and cannot propagate VLAN information to other switches.
